Top 2021 Paint Colors

The "2021 color of the year" from the top 3 brands have a couple things in common -
they are all:
- dark & moody
- natural/earthy tones
You can find a color variation of any of these colors with any brand...
so how do you choose between the 3 (or store brands like Lowe's Valspar)?
I've compiled price comparisons based on 1 gallon (should cover about 350sf)
semi-gloss finishes so you can see the range.
- Sherwin Williams: $42+/gallon
- Benjamin Moore: $43+/gallon
- Behr: $32+/gallon
- Valspar (Lowes Brand): $24+/gallon
Some things to consider when figuring out how much paint to buy:
- Is the current wall finished? Rough drywall will require more than an area that
has been finished before.
- Is the area currently light or dark? Putting light paint over dark will require more
coats than going dark over a light wall.
- Should you prime the wall in advance?
So, if budget is your driving factor, or you have a big space to paint, which brand to use
could be pretty obvious. However, what is also good to keep in mind is coverage and
how many coats it will require to look consistent and nice. If it takes 3-4 coats of Behr or Valspar
to get the same look as 2 coats of Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore,
then perhaps it wouldn't be the best route to go.
